Mary's Story
While Lynda’s connection to India was deep, her service to Maher came after many years - a lifetime - of service and being a caretaker. That is how I saw her, as a caretaker. Throughout her life, she spread her love in ever growing outward circles. Her family formed her strong foundation, first as a daughter and sister, and then as a wife and mother. She generated respect from her business colleagues and established a successful career, always a leader. She was auntie to the children of Maher and a true friend to all who would meet her. Lynda had a way of making you feel special and loved.
I got to know Lynda on The China Pilgrimage in 2003. She and I were part of the same small group of two Americans, three Chinese (Eugene, Richard and Christopher) and one Russian (Tatiana), who sat together over 3 days to discuss a variety of topics as part of a unique business and leadership program. “The Talking Together Business Forum”, with 90 participants from around the world, was orchestrated by Carol Hunter, Tim Rouse, Lori Marcynski and Rui Shujie. We, as active participants, were the instruments that created such incredible harmony on that amazing journey.
From then on, I saw Lynda consistently at Wisdom Community meetings all over the country. She would show up year after year. It was so beautiful to see her grow and blossom, as her fear disappeared.
Lynda and I never traveled together again, even though there were opportunities to do so. We were both planning to be in India in 2022 for the 25th Anniversary of Maher. I had signed up to go with her and 10 others, including my niece, Abbey. When we wondered what we were required to do, she said “just love the children”. Instead of her taking me there, she will be with me in my heart.
Please consider making a donation to Maher (“Mother’s Home”), as a legacy to Lynda King, in celebration of her amazing spirit, to help and guide women with mental health problems to heal and recover and be integrated back into the community. All donations are tax deductible, can be matched by your employer, and 100% of funds go to Maher.
Love, Mary
